The Celtic League General Secretary (GS), Rhisiart Talebot, has spoken out in support of six Welsh Language campaigners who undertook a twenty-four hour hunger strike (starting yesterday) ahead of a vote on the Welsh Governments Planning Bill in the Assembly (see link).

The GS said:

“Impact assessments for new developments in Wales are essential, if the Welsh language is to be protected and promoted for the future.

The Kernow Branch of the Celtic League has prepared a fifteen page report concerning an alleged incident of institutional discrimination against members of the Cornish National Minority who were incorporated into the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (FCPNM).

‘Guild’ organisers seem upset at a protest against their sponsors last week. However, concerns about developers and planning seem set to go centre stage in Mann following what one MHK described as the Chief Minister throwing a ‘hissy fit’ about obstacles to planning.

The Welsh Branch of the Celtic League has again called for support to St David’s Day a National holiday in Wales.

A petition launched by Plaid Cymru on 24th February, 2015 has been published on the Branch’s Facebook account with a call for support. Members of other Branches have been signing the petition in a show of solidarity with the Welsh.

Manx Music Festival Organisers have been quick in responding to a decision by a competitor to quit over sponsorship of this year’s event (see link):

The Festival Chairman Graham Crowe was dismissive of the ‘protester’.

However, the decision to both reject and dismiss the stance of the man involved, Stewart Bennett, may yet come back to haunt the organisers.

As a spin-off from the contaminated Harbour Silt row which has exercised people (and groups) on the Isle of Man recently the Celtic League has asked the Manx Chief Minister for details about discharges into the Marine environment.

The discharges involve leachate from a disused landfill site near Peel on the Islands west coast which are drawn off by tanker at the landfill and then disposed into the sea outfall off Peel.

The Celtic League has urged the Goddard Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse to include two additional items in its remits.

The League say events at the Kincora Home in Northern Ireland in the 1970s should be probed despite the reluctance of the UK Home Secretary to include them in the remit.
