It’s reported that on there way home after there first ‘stint’ at Westminster some of the new intake of SNP Members of Parliament stopped at the monument at Smithfield in London, the site of the execution of William Wallace. It is rumoured one of their number Tommy Sheppard wept.

Of course home in Scotland they also have the huge and striking Wallace Monument and many other commemorative statues.

As the Island tries to forge new economic initiatives in markets such as China what signal does it send that the Island is still ‘overseen’ by a person termed ‘Lt. Governor’.

People have derided nationalists for suggested the name change saying it is unimportant, but as the Chief Minister remarked on a recent visit to China, now seen as a potentially vital economic zone of interest for Mann, ‘status’ is important.

Saskatchewan Highland Gathering and Celtic Festival 2015 Hailed a Success

Victoria Park, Regina in the Canadian Province of Saskatchewan hosted another successful Saskatchewan Highland Gathering and Celtic Festival last weekend. The event took place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th May, featuring all elements of Scottish culture. The sound of pipes and drums filled the air as a festival of music, dance, song and athletics took place in Victoria Park.

Isle of Man: Tallis Consort Bids Farewell to Musical Director at Spring Concert

Tallis Consort's recent spring concerts, held at St Paul's Church, Ramsey, and St Mary's Church in Douglas, were dedicated to the memory of former MHK Charles Cain, one of the founding members of the early music group and until recent times its Musical Director.

The first half included a selection of choral music from many composers living between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, including William Byrd, J. S. Bach and the group's eponymous inspiration Thomas Tallis.

Festival Interceltique Lorient 7th to 16th August 2015

Brittany is the Celtic Nation that hosts the Festival Interceltique Lorient. The build up to this years event which takes place from 7th - 16th  August continues. In 2015 the featured Celtic Nations are Cornwall (Kernow) and the Isle of Man (Mannin). The festival is a celebration of Celtic culture, language, song, music and dance with artists coming from all over the world to perform. The family of the crew members lost when the Breton Motor Fishing Vessel Bugaled Breizh sank off the Lizard in January 2004 are to make one final effort to get legal redress.

There is a firm belief amongst both the families and those who have studied the disaster that it was linked to submarine activity during a NATO exercise at the time.

The League has had responses to a number of issues (involving road policing and burglaries) we raised with Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson following an interview he did with Manx Radio (Mandate) in early May.

CL News regulars will recall the Minister was a bit abusive about the Celtic League (see link) though the tone of his latest written response is much more measured.

One of the unconsidered and undiscussed consequences of redefining marriage and the family to cover same-sex couples in the Irish Constitution is that it would alter the politico-legal effect AT EU LEVEL of one of Ireland’s Lisbon Treaty Protocols.

NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

Following a consultation of its full members conducted by the Kernow Branch of the Celtic League, it has been decided to join in a demonstration to commence at 12 noon on Saturday 20th June, 2015 from outside the Bank of England, Queen Victoria Street, London EC2R 8AH.

A number of high profile figures are scheduled to attend the event drawn from all parts of Britain and further afield including Welsh singer and song writer Charlotte Church.
