Kernow: Children’s Celebration Ban Stokes Controversy

A storm of protest erupted following a report in the Cornish Guardian newspaper concerning a school’s refusal to allow Cornish children the right to attend Padstow’s ancient ‘Obby Oss’ celebration.

The centuries’ old tradition occurs on 1st May annually and involves music and dancing through the streets and Cornish folklorists believe it to be a celebration of an ancient pagan fertility ritual which heralds the arrival of spring.

Northern Ireland news source the ‘Down News’ reports today that Assembly Fisheries Minister Michelle O’Neil is determined to get answers (starting with the Ministry of Defence) about the incident last week where a Ardglass motor fishing vessel (MFV) the Karen was snagged by a submarine off the West coast of the Isle of Man.

Chief Minister Provides Detailed Response on Silt Row

The Isle of Man Chief Minister has responded in some detail to queries from the Celtic League about the harbour silt dumping issue.

In the letter which was accompanied by supporting documentation he sets out his support for his colleague Ministers at DEFA and DOI and disputes the silt is toxic.

He also says he believes the issue could have been avoided by earlier action.
