Just over two week after the Celtic League suggested, in the wake of the decision of Chris Thomas MHK to quit the Office of Fair trading, that others might follow his lead another junior Departmental figure has ‘jumped ship’.

Juan Turner MLC has quit (or been fired) from DOI; it seems to be a bit of both.

Armed Forces Visiting Schools Should be Treated With Caution Says Welsh Assembly

A petition was submitted urging the Welsh Government to ban the armed forces from going into classrooms, claiming the visitors were targeting children in deprived areas. Although the cross-party Welsh Assembly’s Petitions Committee thought that the case had not been made for an outright prohibition of the armed forces from schools it was thought that visits by armed forces personnel should be treated with “more caution” than visits by other employees.

The Council of Europe (CPT), the body which inspects and sets standards for prisons, police stations, and other places of detention in Europe, has written to the Celtic League thanking us for the information we forwarded about the death in custody of Mr Sheku Bayoh at a police station in Scotland in May.

Celtic League is often criticised for having an anti-militarist perspective and we were especially vocal about the recent armed forces reserves recruitment initiative in Mann.

We have also been outspoken over the age of recruitment (16) and the propaganda used to interest even younger people e.g., the cadet forces.

But hey, maybe we are going a bit over the top! Perhaps a younger perspective would be more illuminating (see Youtube link).
