SCOTLAND : MILITARY EXERCISE KILLED SCHOOL OF WHALES

In 2008 we highlighted the environmental damage the British Military had caused at Cape Wrath in Northern Scotland . At that time fires in the coastal area used for military exercises caused by live firing of munitions got out of control and caused over 400 acres of environmentally sensitive heath land to be damaged the MOD themselves admitted that the damaged area would take some years to regenerate. Cornwall faces a nightmare which is not of its own making - and it has to be stopped before it's too late. The crux of this problem was encapsulated by a short speech by outgoing Cornwall Council CEO Andrew Kerr in a Council webcast on June 1st 2015, which shocked all who heard it. Land Reform Bill Scotland: Will It Be Radical Enough?

The Scottish Government has launched new proposals for land reform in Scotland . The Move comes following the publication of a report by The Land Reform Review Group last year and a subsequent consultation which took place between 2nd December 2014 and 10th February 2015. The result is the LAND REFORM BILL.

Unique Ceremony Remembers Fallen Police Officers

Last week on June 16th a commemoration took place at the cemetery in Rawson in the Chubut Province of Argentina that had a unique Celtic connection

Police officers, including the Deputy Chief of Police for Chubut Province , Marcelo Gauna, gathered to pay tribute to officers killed in the line of duty over the years.

Kernow Branch on the March Against Austerity

Protesters travelled by the coach load from Cornwall during Saturday 20th June, 2015 in order to participate in the march through London.

Joining the tens of thousands of other people, several members of the Kernow Branch Celtic League were amongst the demonstrators peacefully protesting against the government’s ongoing austerity measures.

Manx Branch Hold Successful AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Mannin Branch of the Celtic League was held in Peel on Monday 22nd June at St Patricks Hall, Peel.

The meeting began with the Minutes of the last branch AGM (held on 9th June 2014) this was followed by reports from the existing Officers covering the past year with Mark Kermode, who chaired the meeting, providing a detailed update on the National situation.

Wales : Assembly Petitions Committee Issues Report on Schools Recruitment

The Welsh Assembly Petition Committee’s report on its investigation into armed forces recruitment visits to schools in Wales has finally been published.

One aspect of the many and varied roles of the Celtic League is our opposition to militarism and specifically recruitment from the Celtic countries into the British and French armed forces and also the British military cadet forces.

I only wish the Celtic League had enough time and resources to address this area more thoroughly but with finite resources we can only do so much.
