The Department of Home Affairs have responded to queries raised by the Celtic League one month ago about a new Anti Money Laundering ‘Code’. The League had raised issues of ‘clarity’, ‘penalties’ and ‘professional accountability.

Documents released by the ‘whistleblower’ Edward Snowden in late November 2014 revealed that the UK spy facility at GCHQ was targeting undersea cable communications between Ireland and the United Kingdom.

As is usual when such revelations emerge the Irish government (i.e. its Departments of Justice and Communications) wanted to say as little as possible about the issue.

The Isle of Man Minister for Home Affairs, Juan Watterson, has responded to a query from the Celtic League about the legislation which TV licensing detection personnel use on their ‘sorties’ into the Isle of Man.

The League had asked if the controversial United Kingdom, Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA) was used on the Island.

The DHA say it has not been extended to this jurisdiction.

Irelands Minister for Foreign Affairs has stressed the potential for increased bilateral trade between Ireland and Scotland.

Charles Flanagan, TD, was speaking at the Europa Institute in Edinburgh. During his visit to Scotland the Foreign Minister will be meeting Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

Following concerns regarding the perceived ‘Anglicisation’ of a key commemoration in Kernow which remembers the 11% of the population of Cornwall who died violently in defence of their language, beliefs and traditions at the hands of the English establishment during 1549, the Cornwall Branch of the Celtic League has written to Penryn Town Council requesting to be more actively engaged in the ceremonies held annually at the Glasney Stone.

The Cornwall Branch of the Celtic League has again written to the The Right Honourable Sajid Javeed MP Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport seeking a meeting with members of his Department following on from a very successful meeting with senior representatives of English Heritage last year.

The branch is seeking a ‘review’ of the role of English Heritage in managing Cornish Heritage.

With St Piran’s Day just a month away Mike Chappell of the Kernow branch of the Celtic League has sent us a report on how a number of branch members will be heavily involved in the celebrations in Redruth.

The Kernow branch of the Celtic League has been campaigning, with a great measure of success, for almost a decade to get the day recognised as a public holiday. Several local councils have since granted the holiday to their staff.
