Emglev Bro an Oriant Call on Support for Reunification of Brittany Demonstration

Emglev Bro an Oriant have called on people to support the rally for the reunification of Brittany to be held in Nantes-Naoned on Saturday 19th April 2014. The gathering assembles in Place Bretagne at 15h in Nantes-Naoned. ‘Bretagne Réunie et le collectif 44=Breizh organisent une grande manifestation en faveur de la réunification le samedi 19 avril prochain à Nantes.’ The city of Nantes and the Loire-Atlantique Department in which it is situated were formerly part of the historic nation of Brittany.

Thousands March in Dublin to Demand Irish Language Rights

On Saturday 15th February an estimated 10,000 people marched in Dublin to protect the rights of the Irish speaking community. Attracting people from all over Ireland Lá Mór na Gaeilge was seen as both a celebration of the Irish language and a protest over the failure by Government to implement legislation protecting the rights of Irish speakers.

Storms Batter Celtic Coasts

Severe storms combined with high tides have caused major problems around the coasts of Brittany, Wales, Cornwall, Ireland, Scotland and Isle of Man. In Brittany over 25,000 homes are without power today after a winter that has seen the country repeatedly hit by storms. Pan Celtic Festival Coming to Derry, Ireland in 2014

An Fhéile Phan Cheilteach (the Pan Celtic Festival) will be hosted in the City of Derry (Doire) in 2014. The festival, which brings visitors from all over Ireland as well as the other Celtic nations will be visiting Derry, in the north of Ireland for the first time.

BZH New York Announce Celtic Languages of Brittany and Ireland Evening

The Endangered Language Alliance and BZH NY present the third installment of Unheard Of! featuring the Celtic languages of Brittany and Ireland on December 15th at The Bowery Poetry Club (308 Bowery between Bleecker and Houston) from 6 - 7:30pm, $10 cover.

Unheard Of! presents live readings of poetry and oral literature, both traditional and modern, by native speakers with simultaneous projections of texts and translations. The presentations employ theatre, music and dance by way of introduction to these rarely performed pieces.

Success of Demonstration and Rally in Brittany

Quimper, capital of Finistère in Brittany witnessed a sea of Breton flags on Saturday 2nd November 2013 as an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 protestors took to the streets. What started as a movement against the French government‘s ’eco-tax’, which would have put an unfair burden on Breton producers and traders, has become a campaign for the protection of jobs, economy and the Breton way of life. As the campaign gained ground a fearful French government announced a suspension of the ‘eco-tax’.
