CIA TORTURE REPORT PUTS ROLE OF UK AND IRISH ARPORTS IN SPOTLIGHT

It was revealed this week that the Lord Advocate of Scotland , Frank Mulholland, has instructed police to analyse the recent CIA report on torture to see if it can assist their ongoing enquiries into the use of Scottish airports for rendition.

CHILDREN’S COMMISSIONERS PRESSED ON MILITARISATION OF YOUNG PEOPLE

The Celtic League has written to Children’s Commissioners in the United Kingdom and to the Isle of Man Department of Education and Children regarding comments about military cadet forces made by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in a recent (Country) report.

The Celtic League opposes the militarisation of children and at its AGM at Karez in Brittany in 2012 it adopted the following resolution:

Despite a report on the Ukrainian Euromaidan Press Agency site some weeks ago entitled ‘Yanukovych’s stolen planes turn up on the Isle of Man’ the Manx Department for Economic Development (DED) which manages the IOM Aircraft Register says there transfer to the Register was legitimate.

Manx Government Rethink Public Sector Pensions Strategy

The Manx government has put plans to make radical changes to public sector pensions on hold. Instead Tynwald (the Manx parliament) agreed there should be wide ranging consultation and negotiations with the staff involved.

Last month the Manx Nationalist Party, Mec Vannin, criticised the government’s unilateral move to further reform pensions which had only been readjusted two years ago following an earlier enquiry.

The Manx Government has responded to queries from the Celtic League about the decision of United Kingdom nuclear regulators to authorise a restart of a nuclear reactor at Heysham 1 Nuclear Power Station.

UN CRC LOBBIED ON MILITARY CADETS ISSUE

The Celtic League has written to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child concerning the operation by the United Kingdom (UK) of military cadet forces which recruit children as young as twelve.

The League has referred to Committee to concerns it raised two years ago about a similar situation in Australia.
