Reflecting the surge in Celtic identity in North America, the 5th Annual Tartan Day South Highland Games and Celtic Festival is being held this weekend at multiple venues in Cayce, South Carolina (See Link below for more details).  From the event web site is the following quote: “ Our event is a four day celebration of Celtic heritage in our area.

A metal detector enthusiast, John Adamson, struck lucky when, in 2012, he discovered a Bronze Age lock-ring in farmland in Rossett, near Wrexham (Welsh: Wrecsam) in north Wales. Then he found another in the same place nine months later. When tested the two lock-rings were found to be made of around 79% gold, 15% silver and 4% copper. Lock-rings are types of jewellery from Bronze Age Europe and can be made from gold or bronze, although the majority found have been made from gold. The finds were declared treasure at an inquest today (26 March).

There was understandable annoyance amongst some senior citizens on the Isle of Man about the government’s decision to phase out free TV licences for those over 75 years of age.

In this regard the Island will now uniquely discriminate against this pensioner group as in both the UK and Ireland free licences will be maintained.

Stormy Scenes as Activists Attack UKIP Intolerance Towards Welsh Language

New Heritage Centre Celebrates Patagonia Links

It is not often we have a CL News item that is of direct interest to our colleagues in the Patagonian branch of the Celtic League but the news of a £1 million pound lottery grant to aid the establishment of a tourist and heritage centre in Wales about the Patagonian settlers puts the most distant branch of the Celtic League centre stage.

The £1 million will be spent to create the centre at Eglwys Deiniol Sant, Llanuwchllyn, Gwynedd.

Positive ECJ Judgement Could Prove Difficult for Irish Government and DPC

The Irish government could find itself in the ‘hot seat’ if a case before the European Court of Justice (ECJ) finds in favour of the plaintiff.

An Austrian student, Max Schrems, took a complaint to the Irish High Court about the transfer of data by Facebook to the United States.

An on-line petition is now circulating to remove the three feathers as the logo of the Welsh Rugby Union Team. As the petition points out the three feathers can be traced back to Edward the Black Prince; oldest son and heir to Edward III of England. It therefore has no connection to Wales and keeping the feathers is a statement of English oppression and ownership. A link to the petition is below:
