Bishops Court Glen (Glion Chooyrt yn Aspick) covers thirteen acres and has well maintained paths. It is one of the gentler and easier ones to walk with large sections having level paths. We went there on a still early evening and it was perfect.
The Bishops Court itself, the former residence of the Bishop of Sodor and Man but now a private residence, is located to the east of Kirk Michael (Manx: Skylley Maayl) village towards Ballaugh (Manx: Balley ny Loughey). The grounds and the chapel are periodically open to the public. However, Bishops Court Glen is always open to the public, but was once the private garden of the Bishop. The entrance is across the TT motorcycle course opposite the Court.
The glen includes an artificial mound called Mount Aeolus, which resembles Tynwald Hill. There is a small lake in the glen, with ducks and geese. Set at the far end of the glen is a cave with a carved stone seat. Bishop Murray is said to have hidden in there from angry locals, during the 1825 Potato Riots. These days it a very handy point of shelter if you are caught in a shower when walking in the glen. I can confirm that!
