Colby Glen - Glion Cholbee

Colby Glen - Glion Cholbee

Colby Glen (Manx: Glion Cholbee) situated just above Colby village. The Colby River runs through this 5 acre glen. Access is by bus, car or steam railway. Parking is on the roadside. There is a public right of way through the top of glen to Cronkdooney and Ballakilpheric. The little pool in the glen is known locally as "Fairy Pool". Colby has many mature broadleaved trees. The main species are beech, elm, sycamore and ash. wild bluebells and primroses are found in profusion.

Visited this glen late in the afternoon on a sunny February day. I drove to the side of the glen which is beside the A27 going north of Colby village. It is a pretty glen although the rain on previous days had made sections of the paths toward the top quite wet. However, the plus side was that the rains had given the river extra force and the water raced over the small falls and rocks as it made its way down the glen. An enchanting place which is particulalry worth visiting in the spring when wild bluebells and primroses are found in abundance.
