The Breton trawler Bugaled Breizh sank on January 15, 2004, off Cape Lizard Cornwall, with the loss of the five crew on board. The loss of the Bugaled Breizh remains unresolved with the Breton sailors having a good knowledge of the area in which they were fishing, the ship having apparently sank very quickly, in good weather conditions, no life-raft was launched, and the distress signal was brief, without giving the coordinates. This tragedy appeared similar to other incidents involving fishing vessels that have occurred in the seas around the Celtic coasts.

More than 500 games will be played over the course of the week-long festival.

It is expected that as many as 7,000 people will be involved in the Etihad Airways GAA World Games festival in Dublin between players, team officials, administrators, families and supporters.

12 Cornish young people played host to 12 of their Breton peers over a 10-day camp at Tehidy Woods recently.

The 24 young people, led by Breton and Cornish youth workers, shared their cultures and languages during the camp, which was organised and run jointly by Kowethas (the Cornish Language Fellowship) and their Breton sister cultural organisation, UBAPAR.

Welcome support for the Welsh Football team came from the pupils of Diwan Plésidy School (Skolaj Diwan Plijidi) in Brittany (Breizh) who sent the team some good luck messages. As reported by the Football Association of Wales (Welsh: Cymdeithas Bêl-droed Cymru) pupils wrote 'Wales, we love you' and 'Welcome, you are at home' in the Breton language.

The ruling this week by France's top judicial court the Court of Cassation has confirmed a decision to close the case of a French trawler that sunk over a decade ago off the Cornish coast, killing all five members on board.

The Bugaled Breizh a well equipped and competently crewed vessel capsized suddenly and sank 14 miles off the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall in January 2004.

Family members and supporter suspect a submarine taking part in a NATO exercise at the time caused the vessel to founder.

The Brest International Maritime Festival will be held from 13th to 19th July 2016. The City of Brest is in Finistère (Breton: Penn-ar-Bed) in the west of Brittany. Brest's history has always been linked to the sea. Every four years, it hosts the international festival of the sea, boats and sailors. This year a flotilla of 1,500 boats will enter the bay providing a unique opportunity to see the world’s most beautiful ships and to learn about the world’s many seafaring cultures. All of this will take place in a festival of music, inspired by the sea and by sailors.

The French courts have dealt another blow to attempts by the family members of those lost on the Breton trawler Bugaled Breizh to get justice in France.

Eleven years of efforts to get some closure and explanation via the French system came to an end when the Appeal Court in Rennes rejected an application.
