For Connolly the struggle of the working class would always be unfinished business

‘New book on great socialist marks anniversary of his birth’

It's the 150th anniversary of the birth of James Connolly the great socialist leader who was executed by the British in 1916. Connolly’s Citizens Army which had been established in 1913 to defend workers against the brutality of the Dublin Metropolitan Police was considered the most disciplined and well organised of the troops in the Easter Rising. But Connolly had no illusions about the outcome and is said to have remarked if the rising was successful ‘keep the guns’.

Alf is not a 'problem' - That's not fair!

‘You would have to be mad not to want to know the direction the Treasury Minister (TM) is taking us in because after the Chief Minister the TM is THE most important Minister.’

Cats are clever - Like the Chamber of Commerce!

I’m hopelessly out of condition I think - well let’s call a spade a spade fat!

I’m in Alf country Michael tackling one of the offsprings bushes with a brush cutter. It soon becomes clear that my days of swaggering around river banks on the old Rivers and Bridges when my build was shall we say ‘lithe’ are a distant memory. To much time spent ‘putting the world to rights’ in the tavern..hmm!

These workers care for us - We should care for them - Update

Normally critical of Manx Radio (news) output I waxed lyrical yesterday about their ‘fact rich’ report on stress levels in the Health Service.

Having issues with Facebook connectivity yesterday I did a brief post on this (see below).

Labour Conference 'A few lost sheep wandering about'

The Chief Minister Howard Quayle reckons his attendance at things like the Labour Party conference are important and of course - out of step with most people as usual Manx Radio News is they give him a seemingly endless platform to say so.

Slave labour agenda of Isle of Man plc'

Energy FM has a report on postal workers meeting to discuss the implications of any change agenda at the Post Office:

Given reports (see earlier post) about stress and pressure on other public sector workers maybe the Unions are finally waking from their slumber and might challenge the Chamber driven slave labour agenda of ‘ISLE OF MAN PLC’.

Manx Care Workers under pressure

Credit where it's due! An excellent fact rich report her from Manx Radio on stress levels in the Isle of Man Health Service.

The figures show an alarming increase and one wonders why the issue has not been tackled.

Censored on Facebook - surely not! I mean who would want to shut me up? I think it’s probably ‘Gremlins’ rather than ‘Goon’s.

Well done David!

It was great to see Councillor David Christian given this honour by Douglas Corporation. David has been a good servant of Douglas and the Island generally:

I knew David when we were both shop stewards for the TGWU at the old Rivers and Bridges before he left to set up his business and I left to become full time official of the Union.
