Mec Vannin Pledge support for Isle of Man Foodbank

Mec Vannin has made a donation to the vital work of the Isle of Man Foodbank it has also urged individuals members to send either donations or contribute at the charities collection points;

Here’s the press release from Party Secretary Cristl Jerry:

“On 24th September Mec Vannin's meeting had a full agenda, on a wide range of topics.

Our Treasurer's report showed we had sufficient funds to make a charitable donation.

Mec Vannin's growing concern about increasing numbers in our population who have come to crisis point and need that extra backup. The decision was made that the Isle of Man Food Bank would be our obvious choice.

The meeting voted unanimous to give financial assistance to this charity which does so much for people in difficult circumstances and food povery. It seems to Mec Vannin incongruous that our country, ranked one of the richest in the world should need a food bank at all.

Mec Vannin has received a letter of gratitude from Jane Foxon of the Isle of Man Food Bank, thanking us, and inviting us to come to visit their offices and distribution centre at Cronkbourne. We are delighted to have such this opportunity to do so and will arrange to take advantage of this kind offer in the near future and look forward to learning more about how they manage what must be a difficult logistical but vital task.

We would urge those in a position to help as we are sure extra donations will be required to meet the need during the winter months. We will be asking members to help out. Individuals, money raising organisations, public donations and businesses, can all do their bit, as well as personal donations of goods at the supermarket outlets, all have a valuable part to play.

The Manx public is renowned for its generosity so, as we approach the most difficult time of year, the need becomes more vital. We hope that people will not have to choose between heating and eating, parents will not have to go without so their children can eat and children do not go to school without breakfast. If we all do what we can manage it will make a significant difference, We cannot call ourselves a civilised society if we do nothing. If you are in a position to help, find out more at this link to this vital charity.
