Rayner Hoff (27 November 1894 – 19 November 1937) was born in Braddan on the Isle of Man (Mannin). He was the son of a stone and wood carver and began helping his father on architectural commissions at a very young age. He studied drawing, design, and modelling, from 1910 to 1915 and during the First World War fought in the trenches of France. After which he studied at the Royal College of Art in London. Alf's 'grand designs' could be his Dunkirk!

I described Chris Thomas MHK as like a ‘machine gunner at Mons’ after his recent appearance in the portal. If he needed a number two ‘gunner’ it would be our own Private Pike, Alf Cannan MHK and Treasury Minister, who pops up in the portal to talk about his great vision:

Natural Resources Wales congratulated for banning shooting on public land

Natural Resources Wales (Welsh: Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru) is a Welsh Government sponsored body that manages the natural resources of Wales. It aims to pursue sustainable management of these natural resources. There has been a joint three year long campaign by  Animal Aid and the League Against Cruel Sports against National Resources Wales (NRW) leasing public land for shooting. They presented a 12,700 signature petition calling for an end to the practice.

Refugees families refused - Although the Isle of Bute coped admirably.

BBC Ellan Vannin - a page I don’t often visit because I forget it's there - reports on Chief Minister Howard Quayles rejection of Daphne Caine MHKs plea for the Manx government to reject accommodating refugee families from Syria.

eGaming Summit - God did his best but sadly it didn't work!

I’ve done my bit today for income distribution as (fortunately) following the storm the window cleaner came which was a godsend. My ‘home laundry’ is in full swing as well as I am defo into my ‘arts domestic’ autumnal period and the electricity thus consumed should please Popeye (aka Alex Allinson MHK).

A modest repast consumed I settle down for a second helping with MTTV which is still at the eGaming extravaganza. A took a sideswipe at the media's lack of balance in the Howard post earlier so just to prove there is balance MTTV are back with more of the same.

In a world that seems miserable sometimes folk just snap!

‘Across the Celtic countries..discontent over fuel and food poverty, housing and income inequality is now...endemic and a growing problem’

Sometimes small events can have dramatic and far reaching consequences. I was thinking about this when the ‘great debate’ was reactivated last week on the Isle of Man about a handful of refugees. Where did the Syrian refugee problem come from?

Cornwall - a different people, a different land!

The British mainland was formed from the collision of not two, but three ancient continental land masses, according to new research.

Scientists have for centuries believed that England, Wales and Scotland were created by the merger of Avalonia and Laurentia more than 400 million years ago.

However, geologists based at the University of Plymouth now believe that a third land mass—Armorica—was also involved in the process.

MTTV interview the Christopher Lee of egaming'

“If you say we’re not going to have it it will be displaced somewhere else”. That’s the view of the front man for the Chamber of Commerce ( hang on I should have said Chief Minister) when asked about the morality of an industry that ruins tens of thousands of lives globally each year:

'The Nations Station' or a magnet for business riff-raff?

Unusually ‘the Nations Station’ has a nationalist viewpoint today ( see earlier post) something that is strangely rarely portrayed on ‘the National’ broadcaster. I mean don’t believe my expression of fake news do a search on the Stations website.

Indeed on the odd occasion I tune in on the car radio the station is more like a audio manifestation of ‘Little England’ than something that has pride in its Manx roots.
