The Office of the Taoiseach has responded to our query about British Army recruitment in Ireland. We had specifically highlighted the questionable practice, under International Law, of recruiting children under the age of eighteen years.

We cited the views of the UNCRC in this regard.

The text of the response is set out below:

WELFARE REFORM DOING NOTHING IS NOT AN OPTION SAYS CHIEF MINISTER

The Manx Chief Minister has said in relation to Welfare Reform that ‘doing nothing is not an option’.

He was responding to a query from the Celtic League who had asked if the Government would consider an Island wide consultation on the issue similar to that undertaken by Gallup on Quality of Life in the Isle of Man by the Walker Government in the late 1980s.

CELTIC LEAGUE AGM WILL BE HELD IN DUBLIN IN APRIL

The Celtic League Annual General meeting will take place in Dublin on the weekend of 10th-12th April 2015.

The venue for the meeting is the Headquarters of Conradh na Gaeilge, 6 Harcourt Street , Dublin 2 (just off St Stephens Green).

ALARMING INCREASE IN NUCLEAR SAFETY EVENTS ON CLYDE

There has been an alarming increase in the number of ‘nuclear safety events’ at the nuclear submarine and weapons base on the Clyde .

Questions from Scottish Nationalist Party, Defence spokesman, Angus Robertson MP have elicited the astonishing admission that incidents are up by 50%. In 2012-13 there were 105 ‘events’ as opposed to 68 in the previous year.
