It is reported that Russian military incursions into the waters around the NATO countries are on the increase and if there is one thing that the lesson of history tells us it is that for every visible military presence there is a hidden undersea menace.

During Sunday 30 November, 2014, the Convener of the Kernow Branch Celtic League, Cllr Mike Chappell met with members of various ethnic communities to discuss growing fears over racism in the Duchy.

The Kernow Branch has a number of members from various ethnic minorities who regard themselves as Cornish.

IRISH GOVERNMENT URGED TO ACT TORTURE CASE

The Celtic League has written to the Irish governments Justice and Foreign Affairs Departments (Ministers Flanagan and Fitzgerald) expressing support for a new approach to the European Court of Justice over the torture of internees in the north of Ireland in the early 1970s (see below).

The League are supporting calls already made by Amnesty International and the Pat Finucane Centre.

The news airport planned for Nantes appears to have been put on hold whilst environmental issues are considered.

Two years ago the Celtic League reported on opposition to the Airport (see attached link including video of violence by the French police towards protesters):

The British Irish Council (BIC) has met on the Isle of Man and not surprisingly the main focus was on ‘new girl on the block’, Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister of Scotland.

Nicola was generous to her Manx hosts saying her country could ‘learn from the Isle of Man’ and its dealings with the United Kingdom particularly over VAT arrangements.

IAEA Quizzed On Nuclear Ship Fire

IAEA QUIZED ON NUCLEAR SHIP FIRE

The Celtic League has written to the Director General of the IAEA asking what steps (if any) it will take following a hazardous incident last month when a ship carrying hazardous nuclear waste caught fire while on passage from Dounreay to Belgium.

The League has specifically asked if the vessel involved complied with both IAEA and IMO regulations for vessels used in the shipment of nuclear material.
