News from the Celtic League:

Contributions are currently being sought for the next issue of Carn (#167). 

Carn is the Celtic League’s longest running publication and was originally launched in 1973. The 24 page long publication is currently only available in hard copy format and is produced three times a year. It is regarded as an educational magazine and provides news articles and in-depth analysis of issues from an alternative perspective relevant to people in the Celtic countries 

News from Kernow Matters To Us:

In addition to appearing directly before the Boundary Commission during the Truro hearings, providing transport for and taking part in the Border demonstration and so on, members of Kernow Matters To Us (KMTU) also submitted a folio of written material to the Boundary Commission quango objecting to Devonwall. 

We have received this response and note the final paragraph with interest:

A leisurely wander around the Isle of Man can often be a journey of self discovery, but some of the assorted curiosities and landmarks which flourish across the length and breadth of the Island often raise many questions.

The annual Oie'll Verree held in Michael village on old Christmas Eve is a perfect opportunity to enjoy a Manx traditional, country concert; with a packed house indicative of its continuing success.

Tucked away in the old Ebenezer Hall, this much anticipated event was organised by the local branch of the Celtic Congress in latter years, but the baton has now been passed on to the Michael Heritage Trust.

It’s not only me that has a problem with the BBC; in Scotland nationalists have taken their anger to a new but constructive level. Billboards and Van boards attacking BBC bias in news reporting have appeared.

As well as a slogan the boards carry a link so that folk can assess themselves the slant the BBC put on news and current affairs.

Speaking in the Scottish newspaper ‘The Courier’ a representative of the group driving the campaign ‘Inform Scotland’ said;

Although the centenary commemorations of the Easter Rising in Dublin are now over the role of the Scots involved in the struggle to end British rule in Ireland at the time is to be highlighted in a new book (link):

The issue of the transport of nuclear waste by air from Dounreay in Scotland to the United States is to be highlighted at the Scottish parliament this week it is an issue the Celtic League highlighted last year (link):

News from Mannin Branch of the Celtic League:

The Centenary celebration for Sophia Morrison today got of to a very good start with a wreath laying at Peel Cemetery at the grave of the great Manx figure. Even the weather smiled on the day with the midday rain abating just ahead of the event.

I spoke briefly about the need for us to not simply record our appreciation of Ms Morrison’s work but also the work of those she subsequently inspired and continues to inspire.
