Isles of Scilly are off the south western tip of the Cornish mainland. Although part of the ceremonial county of Cornwall they have their own unitary authority. Tourism is the major industry today with good transport links to the mainland.
The Island group is made of five inhabited islands of St Mary's, Tresco, Bryher, St Martins and St Agnes, with 140 uninhabited ones. Given the predominance of tourism the facilities catering for visitors are very good and the islands are outstandingly beautiful and a haven to bird and plant life. Tourism is the major industry today with good transport links to the mainland. Helicopter services run to St Mary's airport and Tresco Heliport and fixed wing flights to St Mary's. There are sea services to St Mary from Penzance and ferry services connect to other islands.
