The first new set of Isle of Man (Mannin) coins for 13 years has been launched by the Manx Treasury. The Treasury (Manx: Yn Tashtey) of the Isle of Man is the finance department of the Isle of Man Government (Manx: Reiltys Ellan Vannin). The set of seven includes a new version of the five-pound coin, which was first introduced on the island in 1981. Each coin has a Celtic border and a motif depicting a modern take on a traditional Manx landmark, theme or tradition, described by the designers as "intrinsically Manx", including the Manx shearwater, Manx cat, Viking longship, Loaghtan sheep, raven and falcon, Tower of Refuge and the Three Legs symbol. They look good, but sadly the royal portrait image on the other side of the coin has been kept. Perhaps that could also have been replaced by something "intrinsically Manx".
