MANN: MACR UNDERMINES APPROPRIATE ADULT INITIATIVE

Although welcoming a move to introduce a new ‘appropriate adult’ scheme aimed at supporting young and vulnerable people during police interviews the Celtic League say the initiative is tarnished by the level at which the Island has set the minimum age of criminal responsibility (MACR).

NEW PROGRAMME ON MAN TARGETS WOMEN

As part of its 2015 programming Manx Radio (the Isle of Mans National Radio Station) has introduced a daily one hour magazine programme called Women Today.

Although primarily aimed at its target audience the programme presenters suggest it will also have a broader focus.

The Celtic League has asked the United Kingdom Department of the Environment and Climate Change about safety systems on a ship carrying nuclear waste which caught fire off Scotland in October.

JUDGEMENT OF RELEASING SERVICE PERSONNEL TO MILITARY CUSTODY QUESTION

The Celtic League has questioned the wisdom of allowing military personnel, who are charged with alleged serious crimes before
Manx courts, to be bailed to military custody.

The League also questions the judgement of Manx courts which fail to assess flight risk, particularly in relation to service personnel of foreign nationality.

The Chief Inspector of Nuclear Installations (HMI) has deferred a response to a Celtic League query about fire safety at nuclear plants which we submitted to him in November (see link):

ANGER AT UNION FLAG ON DRIVING LICENCES PLAN

A decision to replace the EU symbol on United Kingdom driving licences with the Union Flag has provoked outrage in Scotland and Wales .

The changes which apply to England , Scotland and Wales only will according to English Prime Minister, David Cameron, provide road users with a symbolic ‘sign of their national identity’.

Cameron ruled out allowing National flags for Wales and Scotland on ‘cost grounds’.

The Celtic League has written to the Ministry of Defence asking a number of questions about the procedure and policies pursued when a soldier released into military custody by a Court absconds.

HMIC PRESSED ON NUCLEAR COP MISCONDUCT ALLEGATIONS

The Celtic League has written to Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary (HMIC) asking about allegations of misconduct and impropriety aired in the media in 2013 concerning the Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC).

The CNC is an armed police force which guards nuclear installations including Sellafield and Nuclear power plants such as Heysham and Wylfa.
