UNCRC Asked to Press UK on Armed Forces Recruitment of Children

The Celtic League has raised the issue of the recruitment of children below the age of 18 years by the British Armed Forces with the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.

The UK has in the past been criticised for this policy. The League say the policy may also breach International Labour Conventions on the employment of Children.

The United Kingdom Ministry of Defence are insisting Russian Aircraft which transited around the west of the British Isles recently before did not overfly southern Cornwall despite media claim to the contrary. The statement comes in response to a Celtic League Cornwall branch enquiry. Statement from Convenor set out below:

NUCLEAR FIRE SHIP REPORT TO BE PUBLISHED SOON SAY DANISH EMBASSY

The Danish Ambassador has responded to a query from the Celtic League about the incident when the Danish vessel, MV Parida, caught fire and was disabled and drifting off N E Scotland. The vessel was carrying nuclear waste from the Dounreay nuclear plant.

The League had asked when the report into the incident (being compiled by Danish authorities) would be made available and if this would be in English.

A government Minister has moved swiftly to deny a newspaper article that he and colleagues were conspiring against the Isle of Man Chief Minister and planning a vote of no confidence.

The newspaper meanwhile, in the persona of its Editor, has rejected the denial standing by its article and defending the journalist who wrote it.

“the small size of a nation is not an obstacle to its success”. It’s a point those who carp on about the Isle of Man being too small to be independent might wish to ponder.

MANX BUDGET: NO PLAN B NO PLAN AT ALL!

It is not a case of ‘there’s no plan B’ it seems there is no plan at all.

When the Isle of Man budget was unveiled last week the Celtic League were bitingly critical of some aspects of it not least the vagary surrounding a new higher (£14000) tax threshold to be (possibly) introduced next year but of more immediate concern was the decision to claw-back tax credit (Personal Allowance Credit – PAC) and phase it out completely next year.

CR GAS POSITIVE RESPONSE FROM IRISH GOVERNMENT TO OUR QUERY

The Irish government has responded positively to a query from the Celtic League about the long running controversy over the alleged use of CR Gas during a protest at Long Kesh prison in the early 1970s.
