Law must be changed to make Welsh Assembly candidates live in Wales

Under current rules there is nothing to stop people living outside of Wales standing as a candidate for the Welsh Assembly. The National Assembly for Wales (Welsh: Cynulliad Cenedlaethol Cymru) is a devolved assembly with power to make legislation in Wales. The rules as they stand are an anomaly in the Government of Wales Act 2006 and need to be corrected. This has been recognised by two former Welsh Secretaries of State, Peter Hain and Paul Murphy. They want to change the law to ensure all candidates are on the Wales electoral register.

'It is fantastic to see the Plaid Cymru Conference (taking place at Llangollen) unanimously backing a motion in support of funding for the Cornish language. As a long-standing member of Plaid - going back to my college days in Lampeter - I am once again delighted to see the Party of Wales support for Cornwall and its culture.

Latest opinion poll shows Scottish National Party has commanding lead

The latest poll of Scottish voters shows that the Scottish National Party has retained a commanding lead in the polls since the Scottish Parliament elections in May. A BMG poll has shown that constituency support for the nationalists stands at 40 per cent, the Conservatives on 16 per cent, Labour on 14 per cent and the Liberal Democrats on only 6 per cent. Scotland's First Minister and SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon remains the most popular leader in Scotland, with an approval rating of +16.

The 'Kernow Matters To Us' (KMTU)  campaign group has now written to the Clerks of all 213 City, Town & Parish Councils and Meetings in Cornwall with an appeal to join the growing campaign against what has been called 'Devonwall' - the proposed cross-border Westminster Parliamentary Constituency to be known as the Bideford, Bude and Launceston Constituency.

Hostility to Gaelic Has No Place in Scotland - Government Minister Affirms Support for the Celtic Tongue

A government spokesman has cited majority support throughout Scotland for the Gaelic Language. Pledging the support of the Scottish Government to the long term growth of Scots Gaelic, John Swinney, Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary with responsibility for the Gaelic language, delivered a ringing endorsement of the Celtic Tongue of Scotland in a speech in Stornoway (Steòrnabhagh) on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland’s Gaelic speaking heartland.

Silence observed in Wales to mark 50th anniversary of Aberfan disaster

This morning Wales fell silent as the country remembered the Aberfan disaster. Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones had called on the people of Wales to pause for the minute's silence. It was on this day fifty years ago, 21 October 1966, that a catastrophic collapse of a colliery spoil tip killed 116 children and 28 adults in the coal mining village of Aberfan in South Wales.

Manx Wildlife Trust - Treisht Bea-Feie Vannin go batty about bats!

The Manx Wildlife Trust (Manx: Treisht Bea-Feie Vannin) are holding a 'Celebrate Wild about Gardens Week' from the 24 to 30 October 2016. This year they have announced they are celebrating it by going batty about bats! The Trust have organised bat-themed activities on how to support bats and other wildlife in your garden.
