Hergés adventures of Juan

Juan Watterson Speaker of the Isle of Man House of Keys has been holding forth on population growth during a Tynwald jolly to the Cayman Islands.

The Caymans has imported so much external labour that indigenous people are becoming ‘as rare as hen's teeth’. Juan its seems would like Mann to go the same way. That way we could make every year a ‘year of our Island’ because no bugger would know the first thing about the place. I suppose that would keep Chris Thomas MHK and the other assorted political imports happy.

As Juan waxed lyrical about such heady subjects interspersed with quotes from Mark Twain it's hard not to assume he may have been hitting the pisco sours the night before. Certainly he didn’t enlighten his hosts to the fact that the Manx population drain has been off Island in recent years. Anyway look out for another hefty claim for paracetamol on expenses.!

While on the subject of Mark Twain he also said:

‘Principles have no real force except one is well fed’.

Given the Isle of Man has difficulty ensuring all its current population incuding children has enough to eat I would suggest we address that dilemma before throwing the doors open to Juans imaginary hordes.

Twain also said:

‘Suppose you were an idiot, and suppose you were a member of Tynwald; but I repeat myself;

I’ve varied that slightly but you will take my point I feel sure!
