New record set for the fastest solo round of all 282 Munros in Scotland

A Munro is defined as such when it is on the Scottish Mountaineering Club (SMC) official list of Munros and designated as a mountain in Scotland with a height over 3,000 feet (914.4 m). There are 282 Munros in Scotland and probably the best known Munro is Ben Nevis (Scottish Gaelic; Beinn Nibheis), the highest Scottish mountain at 4,411 feet (1,345 metres). Munros are named after Scottish mountaineer Hugh Munro, (1856–1919), who produced the first list of such hills.

Now mountain runner 35-year-old Donnie Campbell has broken the record for the fastest solo round of all the Munros in Scotland. The previous record was set by Stephen Pyke in 2010 who did it 39 days and nine hours. Donnie Campbell from Inverness (Scottish Gaelic: Inbhir Nis)  has now done it in just 31 days and 23 hours. In doing so he climbed the equivalent of Mount Everest 14 times and ran 883 miles (1,422km) and cycled 896 miles (1,443km). After each mountain he cycled, walked or kayaked to the next one. An achievement that could be difficult to improve on. If someone tries it is unlikely to be Donnie himself who said: "It was a great journey and great experience however I would never do it again."
