Masked Police assist eviction of homeless

Balaclava clad members of An Garda Síochána (the Irish Police) have brutally evicted homeless protesters from a house they were occupying in Frederick Street Dublin. The police secured the area for a group of private security men, also masked, who evicted those in the property. It is an illustration of how police forces facilitate business interests and are used to oppress peaceful protest in a phenomena not simply peculiar to Ireland.

As other protesters gathered to oppose the police action several arrests were made and police deployed batons and pepper spray. Later some of those detained presented at hospital with injuries sustained. Meanwhile a large crowd gathered outside Store street Garda station where those detained were held. Protesters (referring to An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar) chanted ‘Leo in your ivory tower’.

Homelessness in Ireland and in particular Dublin is a major issue at present and a further protest is planned today to condemn the police action.

Of course when it comes to politicians in ‘ivory towers’ we understand the phenomena in Mann as well as homelessness, food and fuel poverty go unaddressed while Chief Minister Howard Quayle stuff his face at lunches with the Chamber of Commerce!
