It's over - 'The Handmaid's won!

The great Manx abortion debate is over the handmaid's have defeated the combined wrath of the Christian Soldiers, the Monarch (whose role was invoked at one stage) and prevaricating politicians not least the Chief Minister who at a crucial stage sat on the fence. It’s a good day for woman who will, subject to the anachronism of ‘the Royal Assent’, have the right to choose. Its a bad day for politicians no more free cupcakes delivered by ‘the maids’.

In the United States people like the arch bigot Trump may want to punish women for abortion but we are miles from that tyranny and it's time to take stock.

One of the CALM folk is in the Manx radio portal being calm about it all and at the same time modestly upbeat. When probed by ‘studio woman’ about a potential backlash from ‘the god squad’ she avers that people may still oppose it but the vast majority of Isle of Man folk are at ease with it.

She says, in her own way, that it indicates the Island is progressive. However I remember when the majority of folk here were happy with flogging children or persecuting gay people so we should never drop our guard.

Still I’m quietly pleased that the 'shouty' people of Strand Street and Prospect Hill with all their grotesque paraphernalia that the cops would do nothing about have been trounced.

Maybe we are at the dawn of a positive era - ‘a Manx Age of Enlightenment’.

I won’t hold my breath just yet but ‘studio woman and her calm interviewee seem pleased.
