Celtic Interconnector Undersea Power Link Agreed Between Ireland and Brittany

An a greement has been signed to construct and finance the Celtic Interconnector power cable. The connection will have a capacity of 700 megawatts of electricity.  The cable will run between the Knockraha (Irish: Cnoc Rátha) substation in County Cork to the La Martyre (Breton: Ar Merzer) substation in Finistère. It will run under the waters of the Celtic Sea which is an area of the Atlantic Ocean. Work on the project would begin next year and has an expected cost of €1 billion. The aim is to allow the exchange of electricity and also to strengthen the security of electricity in the case of unexpected events and interruptions to supply.
