Fron-goch Centenary 10-11 June 2016

News From The Celtic League:

Frongoch is a village in Gwynedd north Wales. It is located close to the market town of Bala. It was the home of the Frongoch internment camp, used to hold Irish Republican prisoners from the 1916 Rising.  There were approximately 1,800 Irish prisoners in Frongoch, including prominent Irish revolutionaries Michael Collins and Arthur Griffith. Although enduring harsh conditions the Irish prisoners took the opportunity to exchange information and plan tactics for the next phase of the armed struggle for Irish freedom.

A series of events will be held at Fron-goch on Friday Junes 10th - 11th 2016 to mark the centenary of the internment camp and its importance in the Irish War of Independence. The programme includes:

Friday 10 June 

19.00 A special lecture by Professor Terence Dooley at Neuadd Mynach (Cwmtirmynach, Y Bala, LL23 7EB)

Saturday 11 June

Parade in Bala at 10.00 am

11.00 Opening of the exhibition at Ysgol Bro Tryweryn, Fron-goch (Y Bala, LL23 7NT)

13.00 A word of welcome by Dafydd Elis-Thomas AM and other guest speakers, including a word of thanks by Elwyn Edwards, followed by a presentation by Ysgol Bro Tryweryn and talk by author Lyn Ebenezer

14.00 The first guided walk to begin by Ysgol Bro Tryweryn

14.45 Second guided walk to begin by Ysgol Bro Tryweryn

15.30 Third guided walk to begin by Ysgol Bro Tryweryn

16.00 Closing of the exhibition at Ysgol Bro Tryweryn, Fron-goch
