Be environmentally friendly, buy local and support Manx farmers and food producers. That was the clear message that came from the Isle of Man Food and Drink Festival held at Knockaloe Farm on the Isle of Man on the weekend of 22nd and 23rd September 2012.
The event was extremely well attended with a wide range of producers exhibiting and promoting Manx produce from throughout the Island. Local producers offered a selection of meat, seafood, vegetables, cakes, honey, apple juice, Christmas puddings, fudge, rapeseed oil, pies, chocolate, cheese, jams and more. Locally made ceramics, soap and hampers were also exhibited.
Family entertainment was on hand with activities including face painting, an ice sculpture of the native Manx Loaghtan sheep, treasure hunt, games and an activity marquee. Farm animals were in the Farm in the Festival and demonstrations of milking and more were given. Music was provided by a variety of Manx artists including popular band ‘Skeeal’.
Bars at the festival served Manx ales from breweries on the Island and local caterers such as Harbour Lights served cakes and cream teas. Milntown Estate and Gardens gave a taste of their forthcoming Spice Night on 20th October. A highlight of the festival was the Manx Food Theatre with cooking demonstrations from celebrity chefs including special guest Ainsley Harriott.
A very successful weekend whose sponsors included Manx Gas and Manx local supermarket Shoprite. The event was covered live by Manx Radio. A selection of pictures below gives a flavour of the festival.
