NATIONALISTS CONDEMN POST OFFICE PLANS

The Manx Nationalist Party, Mec Vannin, has condemned plans by the Manx Government to close main Post Offices in Douglas and Ramsey and franchise them out to a private sector retail business.

At its monthly meeting on Monday 27th November the party approved the following motion:

“ Mec Vannin views the decision of government to close major Post Office retail facilities in Douglas and Ramsey with concern.

Pan Celtic Unity - Welsh Language Commissioner Meets with Irish Parliament to Strengthen the Celtic Tongue

The Sub-Committee on the 20 Year Strategy for the Irish Language and Related Matters of the Irish Parliament (Oireachtas) met with Meri Huws, Welsh Language Commissioner, on Tuesday, 25th November 2014. The purpose of the meeting was for the Committee to consult with Commissioner Huws so as to benefit from the experience of Wales in the implementation of the Welsh language (Wales) Measure 2011.

IRISH GOVERNMENT PRESSED ON SELLAFIELD PONDS DANGER

Following the revelations in the Ecologist magazine about the dilapidated and dangerous nature of storage ponds at Sellafield the Celtic League has raised the issue with the Irish government.

Ireland (via various agencies) has an agreement on exchange of information and access to Sellafield.

The League has asked if Irish officials had access or information about this issue;

The Manx branch of the Celtic League is to ask the Manx government what representations to the United Kingdom are ongoing following revelations last month about the hazardous nature of storage ponds at the Sellafield Plant. The issue was discussed at the (November 2014) monthly meeting of the branch

LEAGUE BRANCH EXPRESS TERRITORIAL SEA AND SEABED CONCERNS

At this months meeting of the Manx branch of the Celtic League concern was expressed about the total disregard shown by the United Kingdom to Manx territorial integrity under the United Convention on the Law of the Seas.

It was agreed that the branch would ask the Celtic League General Secretary to approach the relevant United Nations bodies responsible for overseeing UNCLOS.

CONGRATULATIONS NICOLA! MANX BRANCH WELCOME APPOINTMENT OF NEW FIRST MINISTER

The Celtic League Manx Branch is to write to Nicola Sturgeon MSP congratulating her on her appointment as First Minister of Scotland.

The proposal was one item of a range of both National and Inter-Celtic issues discussed at the November meeting of the branch.

CONCERN AT LACK OF NGO CONSULTATION BY GOVERNMENTS

The Manx Branch of the Celtic League is to ask the General Secretary of the League to press the Irish, Manx , United Kingdom and French governments to ensure that they involve accredited Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in consultation prior to submitting reports to United Nations bodies.

The Celtic League is an accredited NGO with roster status to ECOSOC (The United Nations Economic and Social Council).

CHRONICLES CAMPAIGN TO BE RENEWED

The Manx Branch of the Celtic League at its monthly meeting in November urged a renewed effort by the General Council of the League to pressure both the British and Manx governments to ensure that the Chronicles of Man and the Isles are exhibited permanently in the Isle of Man

The medieval manuscript has been held for many years by the British Library although its ownership is disputed.
