It was good to hear John Moss on Mandate (Manx Radio) this morning take time to cite the resolution moved by the Mannin branch at the (Inter) Celtic League AGM held in Peel over the weekend.

Now in its sixty fifth year, Peel Carnival (Sunday 6th August) is recognised as the oldest, continuous carnival on the Island, and organisers invite people of all ages to head west for the festivities, or participate in the parade.

Opposition in Wales to insulting "Ring of Iron" grows

Flint Castle (Welsh: Castell y Fflint) is located in Flint (Y Fflint) in north-east Wales. It stands on the Dee Estuary (Aber Dyfrdwy) where the River Dee (Afon Dyfrdwy) flows into the sea. Work began on the castle in 1277. It was one of the first of a series of castles built in Wales by the English King Edward I (17/18 June 1239 – 7 July 1307) during his campaign to conquer Wales. They were constructed with the aim of forming an "Iron Ring" used to suppress Welsh resistance. Each of these castles viewed on their own can be admired as an impressive structure with a unique fortress design.

Culture Vannin is delighted to announce the 2017 recipient of a bursary scheme for young and fluent speakers of Manx that enables them to attend a summer school in Irish run by Oideas Gael in Donegal. The bursary covers attendance, travel and accommodation costs to the selected course.

A resolution adopted at the AGM of the Celtic League this weekend (held on the Isle of Man) condemned the imprisonment of two protesters is Scotland on charges related to disrupting the movement and storage of nuclear warheads at the Faslane Nuclear base. The protesters have since been released.

Solidarity with Irish Language Act campaigners

A resolution adopted at the AGM of the Celtic League this weekend (held on the Isle of Man) confirmed League support for an Irish Language Act in the North of Ireland and expressed support for those individuals and groups campaigning on the issue. The resolution also highlighted and condemned that attitude of the UK and Unionists for failing to meet basic demands on both the language issue and marriage equality.

Breizh: AGM welcomes mining pause but resolution calls for complete cessation

An issue relating to the Variscan mining controversy in Brittany (and parts of France) was down for discussion at this year’s Celtic League AGM held on the Isle of Man.

The Celtic League had added its voice to the protests against the plans by Variscan whose plant and also HQ have been the subject of attacks in Brittany and France.
