Irish UNIFIL Chief awarded DSM and praised by UN for dedication to peacekeeping

A former head of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon and long time participant in Irish Army UN peacekeeping operations Major General Michael Beary has been presented with the Distinguished Service Medal by the Irish government.

During the ceremony at Cathal Brugha barracks at Rathmines, Dublin at which the Irish Defence Minister Paul Kehoe presented the award the United Nations paid tribute to Major General Beary. A message from Under Secretary General for Peacekeeping, Jean Pierre Lacroix, was read which stated:

Quayle's 2017 'State of the Nation' address was meaningless drivel expect more of the same

In a few weeks Howard Quayle will get the opportunity to give the annual 2018 Chief Minister State of the Nation address. If you think back to last year the content was pretty vacuous and most notable for the quite outrageous attack on the media. It was the mainstream that was in his sights but he spun it to include social media. Quayles State speech was meaningless drivel that 12 months on sees people worse off than ever,

Yes he’s still about! Isle of Man Lt Gov. Sir Richard Gozney sitting up in Government House pocketing his £100,000 a year and getting the Harrods equivalent of the weekly food bank delivery paid for by us. Not to mention of course the gas bill - musn’t forget the gas bill although quite a few Manx people can forget using gas this winter given the price - which is sure to rise. Who said Empire is dead!

Jane's not a fan of Vera Lynn I take it!

The Manx judiciary are infamous for some of their zany pronouncements but this latest one takes the biscuit:

“Identity matters. It strengthens us to know who we are”

Dafydd Wigley former leader of Plaid Cymru is bemoaning the fact that much that is produced in Wales comes emblazoned with a Union Jack.

As was always the case with a man who garnered great respect from all sides of the political divide when in the House of Commons he does it without rancour saying:

“I’ve nothing against the Union Flag… in its appropriate place. If people want to wave it at the last night of the proms in the Albert Hall, fair enough.
It’s simply not a flag on which Wales is represented.”

Wigley says in an article in the Daily Post:
