It was not all scrutiny of minutes and finances or consideration of wordy resolutions when the Celtic League held its AGM this weekend in Dublin the social side of such events also provides a valuable function.

AGM host countries invariably plan a social evening and generally also an event (or events) to show case their culture and tradition. In that regard this years Irish hosts were not found wanting.

The Celtic League held its Annual General Meeting this weekend in Dublin at the Headquarters of Conradh na Gaeilge at Harcourt Street, Dublin.

The meeting held working sessions on Friday 10th April (Evening) and Saturday 11th (April) full day with social events on the Sunday (Afternoon) in the Dublin area for visiting delegates.

A frequent visitor to the Isle of Man who has studied its language and culture has expressed his reservations about potential changes mooted by the Tynwald Ceremony Arrangements Committee (TCAC) in relation to the annual National Day on July 5th.

It’s useful from time to time to reflect on just where the Celtic League is at, what it’s done and how it will perform in the future. Certainly there’s a lot to discuss at this years AGM in Dublin, so I suggest as well as looking forward we should also look back!

Ireland’s Defence Minister has responded to concerns expressed by An Conradh Ceilteach (the Irish Branch of the Celtic League) when a Defence Agreement (memorandum of Understanding) was signed, in January 2015, between Ireland and the United Kingdom.

The branch Convenor Cathal O’Luain wrote to the Minister in January setting out the ‘total opposition’ of the branch to the military pact.

The Celtic League have addressed a number of queries to the Manx Chief Minister about the storage of contaminated silt which cannot be deposed of at sea at an onshore site.

The League also ask about containment of the material in transit and also if the haul route passes a primary school on the exit road to the dump site.

POLICE SCOTLAND ALERTED TO ABUSE DIRECTED AT SNP LEADER

Just two days after we expressed concern about unwarranted and vitriolic abuse aimed at politicians a further instance of the behavior has come to light.

Again the politician being targeted is SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon.
