There has been a large protest at the Dungavel immigration removal centre at South Lanarkshire in Scotland.

Over 400 protesters from religious groups, trade unions and human rights bodies gathered outside the centre yesterday. The President of the Scottish Trade Union Council, Lawrence Mawson, told the protesters:

One of the least well publicised of our Celtic League branches is our Patagonian Branch (Argentina) which was established some years ago.

The Celtic League has long had connections with Argentina and for many years Alan Heusaff (former General Secretary) who administered the International branch told me that a goodly proportion of its substantial membership at that time were from Argentina (22 in the City of Buenos Aires alone).

“Hearing that a senior news reporter at Manx Radio is thinking of leaving. Some sort of meltdown is doing on up at Douglas Head.”

It is twenty years since the Celtic League first raised the issue of drug and substance abuse in the British Armed Forces. Initially there was a reluctance to admit to the problem but eventually in 2008 there was a more open policy adopted and the MOD even agreed (via then Defence Minister Des Browne) to take up on a Celtic League suggestion (see quote in letter below).

There will be another silent protest about the failure of former Scottish Secretary Alistair Carmichael to stand down from his position as MP for Orkney and Shetland in Kirkwall at 1pm today.

Protesters plan to gather for 30 mins in a protest which will be silent. They have stressed it is non-Party political and anyone can attend.
