Dungavel: Home Office Respond on ‘Istanbul Protocol’ Query

NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

The Celtic League has received a response from UK Home Office Immigration Enforcement following our query about the Dungavel immigration removal centre in Scotland.

We wrote to the UK Border Agency in early May asking if medical staff employed at the Centre are trained to standards set under the United Nations Istanbul Protocol.

NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

We are always keen to report on events in Brittany and reinforce the ties within the Celtic League to that country.

In many ways the Bretons face the greatest challenges of all the Celtic people being dominated by the ‘dead-hand’ of authoritarian and centralist French governments. It is therefore important that we maintain strong links and underpin the solidarity of the other Celtic countries with the struggle of Breton nationalists.

NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

There has been a burgeoning of social media sites in Mann in recent years (even the CL Mannin Branch eventually entered the fray on Facebook and Twitter) and it has been no bad thing.

While social media has not replaced mainstream media (yet) it is a useful adjunct to it.

In other jurisdictions there have on occasions been controversies about abuse of social media sites particularly in relation to political attacks on opponents.

Were We So Arrogant that We Thought Child Abuse Did Not Happen Here?

NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

It has been revealed that there were a number of child abuse allegations involving the Isle of Man in a report released by the Methodist Church recently.

Coincidentally, six years ago (May 2008) we wrote to former Chief Minister Tony Brown suggesting the retrospective audit of child care on the Isle of Man saying:

Scottish Secretary David Mundell Fails to Give Convincing Answer On Smear Campaign Scandal

David Mundell who is the current Scottish Secretary gave a very evasive 'answer' about any involvement he might have had in the smear campaign against SNP Leader and Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. Prior to the General Election the Scottish National Party were riding high in the opinion polls. Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland's First Minister and Scottish National Party leader was becoming increasingly popular. It was clear the British establishment and their friends in the media were panicked. There then began a smear campaign against Scotland's First Minister.

Isle of Man: Can Victorian Churches on the Isle of Man Survive the 21st Century?

With recent announcements that some of the Island's churches are under threat of closure, it was timely that the Isle of Man Victorian Society should invite Tom Ashley, Churches Conservation Adviser of the UK Victorian Society, to speak on this subject.

The topic attracted a large number of people concerned by the rapid escalation of closures, which has also affected the UK, bringing into focus the major issues which each denomination has had to face in recent years.

‘Of course the British Government has apologised but that apology is too late for many’

This will be a very brief post just to confirm to our critics the ‘bad news’ that the Celtic League has been proved right again!

Did ‘Smeargate’ Go Further? Watch This Interview

NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

Did ‘Smeargate’ go further than Alistair Carmichael and his aide? Well according to David Mundell, current Scottish Secretary, it did not.

Mundell should be in the know as he worked in the Scottish Office with Carmichael at the time that Carmichael launched the carefully planned attempt to discredit SNP Leader and Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, which has since ‘blown up in his face’.

Bercow: Don’t Clap Him Only Me!

NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

Scottish SNPs were given a dressing down by Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow for having the temerity to clap and applaud after the leader of the Scottish Group, Angus Roberstson MP, trounced an opponent in debate.

Of course this ‘put-down’ for the uppity nationalists was eagerly jumped on by media around the ‘Westminster bubble’.

Armed Forces: Not All ‘Fun’ Then!

NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

Oh dear! We’ve been at it again: number-crunching to find out the real facts while the Manx media run ‘fun’ interviews and lucrative adverts as part of the Armed Forces propaganda war they’ve all ‘signed up’ to recently in Mann.
