It was great to see Councillor David Christian given this honour by Douglas Corporation. David has been a good servant of Douglas and the Island generally:

I knew David when we were both shop stewards for the TGWU at the old Rivers and Bridges before he left to set up his business and I left to become full time official of the Union.
David was always committed and gave his best certainly he was pivotal along with a small group of other Union members in organising the first strikes in the 1980s against low pay. That work transformed how people were paid in both the public and private sector.
It aso should not be forgotten that David also was a keen exponent on ensuring the environment of our Island was cleaned up. At the Corporation in his early days he started the Island wide clean up drive - many years before Beach Buddies, However even earlier at the Rivers and Bridges he had the whole gang roped in for a clean up at the quarry at Scarlett one Saturday - we even used the Rivers and Bridges boat which he managed to cadge for the weekend thanks to then R & B Engineer Alan Bell (not the politician).
Well done David an honour hard earned!
