Scotland's Wickerman Festival 24 and 25 July 2015

The Scottish village of Dundrennan (Gaelic: Dun Droighnein) is a village in Dumfries and Galloway (Scottish Gaelic. Dùn Phrìs is Gall-Ghaidhealaibh). Close to the village there is an annual festival called the Wickerman Festival which has often been called "Scotland's Alternative Music festival". With a widely eclectic mix of music it is a family friendly event. The name Wickerman is linked to the classic British horror film The Wicker Man (1973) starring Christopher Lee and Edward Woodward. The surrounding area was the setting for various locations used within the film. It is set on a fictional Scottish island called Summerisle where the inhabitants have abandoned Christianity and now practise a form of Celtic paganism.

As with the film the festival climaxes on Saturday at midnight with the burning of a giant 30 ft (9.1 m) Wickerman. This years event is on 24 and 25 July and more information can be seen on the Festival's website. If you visiting Dumfries & Galloway for the Festival it is worth extending your stay in the area. Dumfries & Galloway is rich in history and culture with many interesting sites to visit. It also boasts some magnificent scenery and offers many opportunities for outdoor sports, walking and other activities.
