Once Again British Labour Party Stabs Scotland in the Back

Today (21st December) Keir Starmer, the leader of the British Labour Party, made his much hyped speech on YouTube about devolution plans under under any possible future Labour government. Although purporting to voice Labour's commitment to delivering a wave of devolved government across the Britain, it was really a desperate attempt to sabotage any desire for independence by the Scottish people. In fact the only definitive statement he made throughout his rambling 3,000-word speech, was total opposition to an independent Scotland and preventing the Scottish people from exercising their democratic right to hold a referendum on the question.

For the last 17 successive opinion polls the people of Scotland have consistently shown support for independence. Some polls showing 58 percent in favour and an even higher number in favour of a referendum. This speech by Keir Starmer was designed to begin a process of Labour trying to prevent the catastrophic decline of support for Labour in Scotland. In fact all it succeeded in doing was confirming to the people of Scotland the complete contempt that British Labour has for them. The only sop he offered to the people of Scotland was the offer of “UK-wide Constitutional Commission  to consider how power, wealth and opportunity can be devolved to the most local level”.

Just to add salt to the wound former Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown is going to be an advisor to this Commission. This man, described by many as a traitor to Scotland, was active in the anti-independence campaign in the last Scottish independence referendum in 2014. That anti-independence campaign was noted for its half truths and often downright lies. It was Gordon Brown who oversaw much of Labour’s collapse in support in Scotland and his involvement, along with the current Labour leader Keir Starmer, will continue this decline. Labour have once again demonstrated that they cannot be trusted by the Scottish and indeed other Celtic people. Wales was hardly even mentioned in Keir Starmers speech. The political, language, cultural and social rights of the Celtic peoples are of little or no interest to the British Labour Party or for that matter the other United Kingdom pro-union political parties.
