New York Times slights Scotland by calling Scottish Wimbledon Champion English

The London Daily Mail reports: "The New York Times sparked outrage on Twitter yesterday calling Murray an "English Tennis Player". The Mail continued: "..Alex Salmond (First Minister of Scotland) was accused of political opportunism after unfurling a Saltire (Tradional Scottish Flag of St. Andrew's Cross) behind David Cameron's head (British Prime Minister) in the wake of Andy Murray's historic Wimbledon victory. The move was politically sensitive because Scotland is planning to hold an Independence Referendum in Autumn 2014. The Scottish National Party leader seemed to delibertely raise the flag behind the Prime Minister (David Cameron)  so it would be in the television shot".

The controversial statements coming from the American Media continued with comments made by long standing National Public Radio journalist, Michael Goldfarb, who appears indifferent to the significance of the upcoming vote on Scottish Independence to Celtic nationalist sentiments: "It is a political event (Murrays's win). You know, next year, Scotland is going to have a vote on independence, on breaking up the  United Kingdom. I fear Andy Murray is going to come under pressure to declare which way he's going to vote on that. He's already ducked the question."
