The latest raft of surreal statistics arrive from the Manx government and induce the same sense of despair that this regime has lost all touch with reality.
Government policy, as adopted a short while ago, is that if the stats are bad change the way you calculate them then wheel out someone like Chris Thomas MHK to bore everyone to death telling us how for years ‘the stats’ were calculated all wrong for the Island. That was, you know, back in the days when the money in your pocket was actually worth something and your income grew and families prospered. These days you have no money in your pocket your income is in decline and food banks are thriving.
The media of course are shiites they peddle the government line unquestioningly. It is if you like ‘a double whammy’. We have ‘stats’ that are questionable and a media that is unquestioningly subservient.
Expect Chris Thomas MHK along any time soon like some kind of political Tommy Cooper to provide some illusions.
Chris will perform his latest tricks and you will look in your pocket and say: ‘Where did that go?’.
Still there is some light relief looking at the government news release I homed in on the heading:
‘Things you need to know about this release’
and wondered if someone in the government sausage machine art least has a sense of humour!
