Foodbank HQ rent £16000

IOM Newspapers reports that the Isle of Man Foodbank is having to pay £16000 per annum for its HQ. I was leaked this story several weeks ago but chose not to use it as the Foodbank were in the midst of a major drive to raise stock donations for the important summer holiday period when with schools closed the feeding of children puts a pressure on stretched families

Rightly or wrongly I thought that the fact so much is needed for overheads might deter folk from donating.

It is a scandal that such a worthy cause does need to dispense so much for adequate premises to do its work but if anything this illustrates that support for the organisation is even more vital either by way of cash donations of goods which can be left at drop off points. Indeed I saw a drop off point in my local Shoprite recently and the trolley was thankfully full!

Of course it is a scandal that on an Island whose media regularly massage the ego of HNWIs who in some cases have billions that food banks exist. Shamefully I think though that things will get much worse and both government and the business community seem inured to such suffering
