Cornish Language Proposal Submitted To Truro City Council

Truro City Council is to investigate a proposal submitted by Councillor Conan Jenkin.  The proposal now before the Council is to install Cornish language signage advertising local amenities.

Councillor Jenkin, in an article written by Jason Lock and posted to the popular web site "This Is Cornwall", is quoted citing Truro as enjoying the Cornish Nation's highest percentage of Cornish speakers and called Truro "..the home of the Cornish language".  Jenkin continued; "Bilingual signs will boost tourism and give the city more of a Cornish identity.  I propose the Council look in to incorporating the Cornish  language signs of amenities that the Council owns".

It was further reported that Officers from the Truro City Council will now open preliminary talks with the Cornish Language Partnership.  The Cornish Language Partnership describes itself on its website as follows: "The Partnership incudes language organisations, local authorities and a number of other organisations who have come together with the aim of promoting Cornish and developing it further in Cornish life".
