Bill in the confessional - I like the tie

Things are looking gloomy at ‘the shed on the head’ it's still losing money but Manx Radio Chairman Bill Mummery says this is ‘progress’. You tend to think if Bill was on the Apprentice someone would be saying ‘You’re fired’:

I muse I wonder why/how Bill was appointed I never did get a clear answer from Howard to that query, Was chairing Manx Radio a prize at some Chamber of Commerce Xmas shindig?

It can’t be disguised that things are bad so resident ‘journo’ in the Portal. Ed Oldham does his best to grill Bill. However it's a bit like grilling a kipper that's already overdone although I do like Bills tie. I’m waiting for Ed to say: ‘When are you going to shape up Bill’ but sadly he doesn’t and Bill just mumbles on like some penitent. Indeed Bill is in such a sombre mode its as if the portal is a confessional - I start thinking of Robert Duvall and Robert de Niro in ‘True Confessions’ perhaps I’ll watch the dvd later.

So what now for Manx? They want ‘oodles’ of money from Alf Cannan MHK at Treasury to reconstruct the shed so they have surroundings and an ambience to which they are entitled so Alf will have to bail them out.

Ironically Manx Radio have been cunning although they are losing shed loads of money (no pun with the opening lin). By setting up the video portal they have allowed people like Cannan, Thomas and Skelly - not to mention ‘Popeye’ to see themselves as TV stars so there is no way Alf is going to jeopardize that even if during the interviews he can be dazzled by Tim Glover’s white shirt.

I predict Manx Radio will have its shortfall made up and eventually Tynwald will also cough up more cash for the extension and the green room.

The station will have to eat a bit of humble pie for a few days and the odd detractor may come along from other media sources but they will ride out what is hardly really a storm.

You’ll notice I never mentioned Howard Quayle MHK Chief Minister as one of those ‘preening in the portal’ - thats because Howard has that niche corned at MTTV.

As for us the pubic? Well we just pay. Nice one Bill - where do you get those ties!
