Glen Mooar - Glion Mooar

Glen Mooar - Glion Mooar

Glen Mooar (Glion Mooar) is in the Parish of Michael on the West coast road from Peel (Manx: Purt ny h-Inshey) to Ramsey (Manx: Rhumsaa), half a mile from Kirk Michael (Manx: Skylley Maayl) and southwest from Glen Wyllin.

A road cuts through the glen. The path, which leads you to one of the highest waterfalls on the Island, is reached from the Barregarrow road, and the section leading to the beach is off the main road. This glen covers an area of about 10 acres and has a length of approximately half a mile. Access is by car or bus. A picnic area is at the start of the path leading to the waterfall. This impressive waterfall is called Spooyt Vane (White Spout).

Our Visit

Walking along the shore from Glen Wyllin we headed southwest. At the base of the glen we walked up to the main Kirk Michael to Peel Road which divides the glen. We crossed the road to a small picnic area and then began our ascent. The glen is very pretty and the river was flowing fast after the Autumn rains. We walked down the steps that lead to the Spooyt Vane waterfall. There is a small stone viewing platform on the edge of the pool that the waterfall plunges into. It is a must to see when visiting this glen. The glen has a particular atmosphere enhanced when you reach the site of the 8th-10th century remains of Patricks Chapel (Cabbal Pheric).
