Our Island Our World 'Our Crisis'

I am perusing the Manx news courtesy of ‘the boys and girls on the Head’ online service. Paul Moulton of MTTV would love it it’s kind of ‘social media for adults’ without the nastiness.

I’ve just reached the story on ‘Our Island Our World’ and a concert they are having this weekend in Peel Castle celebrating the diversity in Mann. I recall speaking about this at Illiam Dhone some years ago and saying what a better place the Island was for the rich mix of peoples we now have, Sometimes however we let ourselves down as for example when we spurned offering an invite to a handful of Syrian refugees.

Right on cue the email inbox pinges and its the Irish Red Cross - I’ve donated to them before - who say globally crisis situations are increasing but donations are dropping. They cite the dreadful cholera outbreak in Yemen one of the worst globally for decades and of course the terrible plight of the Rohingya refugees in camps in Bangladesh.

I’m an easy touch my donation goes of pronto and I think let’s hope some of those folk celebrating ‘Our Island Our World’ at the weekend are of a similar mind. Let's face we can’t as individuals save the world but you may through a small donation to the Red Cross or UN help save a life!
