'Never apologise it's a sign of weakness'

‘Never apologise it's a sign of weakness’ so the saying goes! I’ve never subscribed to the adage myself believing that on occasion an apology is the best recourse.

Indeed as apologies are de rigueur after the Manx Chief Ministers humility in the House of Keys today than I thought I would join in the spirit. I therefore apologise if I have offended Bill Shimmin(s) MHK by referring to him as ‘Bela Lugosi’ or indeed rattling on about that (s) on the end of his name. Also Alf Cannan MHK our Treasury Minister for inferring CFO Sheila Lowe has to help out when he runs out of finger doing his sums. I feel better already so I’ll include ‘apols’ for referring to Daphne as ‘goat girl’ or criticising the Chief Minister over facial inflexions in those MTTV interview.

One feels better when one apologises although I rather got the impression with Howard’s apology in the House of Keys it was to him a bit like Herman Goertz swallowing that ‘bitter’ pill in the Alien’s Office at Dublin Castle in May 1947. Lets hope in Howards case the results are politically less terminal.

Anyway Kate Beecroft seemed to take it all in good part but did she really have to make a jibe about it not being a ‘personal apology’. After all it was an apology from ‘a great man’ so necessarily a great apology!
