MTTV embraces surrealism

‘As I imagine myself gazing out on the flowing waters of the Dniester Media man is still droning on to MTTV!’

It's a kind of ‘media luvvie do’ at government house and MTTV of course are there. Somehow however from the start I get the sense Paul Moulton’s heart is not in it - unusual - maybe it's just perception.

He’s interviewing someone called Wilson who I’ve never heard of it turns out he's the Chief Executive Officer of Isle of Man Media - still none the wiser:

It turns out that I may not have him on my radar because he doesn’t live here. He’s the CEO of Isle of Man Media but he doesn’t live here. I’m wondering if this could start a trend pity all the Departmental CEOs and Ministers did not live here plus the HNWIs it might be a better place.

The IOM Media man moves about a lot in the interview - note to MTTV check the camera stand. He says not living here is handy because he can just jump on a plane and go to Cannes - now I’m completely lost.

Moulton returns to a familiar hobby horse (actually it's one of mine as well) why have we got no ‘Telly’ here, Media man explains - in the way that Howard sometimes puts Paul straight - that it is because of our population size.

As the interview - which I just can’t follow because its vacuous - goes on MTTV pan around. There are all manner of odds and sods excitedly talking away in the government house function room like extras in a B feature. I muse maybe Gozney has been evicted but then ‘Mrs G’ hoves into view looking a bit lost. Perhaps they are doing B & B now.

I’m not interested as I’ve started thinking about Transnistria which is a strip of land on Dniester river on the border between Moldova and Ukraine. It has about four TV stations and radio and print media and although its population is larger than the Isle of Man when it comes to GDP compared to us its a basket case. Transnistria (sometimes called Transdniester) is so insignificant that even on a reasonably sized map if you blinked you would miss it.

Transnistrians also have multi-nationality. They can be Transnistrian, Moldovan, Ukrainian or Russian or a mixture of all. They also get overspill ‘Telly’ from Moldova and Ukraine without paying a licence. I was thinking of moving to Ireland but now Transnistria is top of my post Brexit exit list! In any case even after Alf Cannan MHK has hacked the monthly pension to bits I imagine it would go along way in Transnistria.

I muse I bet Transnistria doesn't have ‘a CEO of Transnistria Media’ who lives in Moscow. I bet it doesn’t have a £50 million tech fund either.

This is turning into a nightmare. We have fuel and food poverty a health service tha Treasury Minister Alf Cannan wants to do a ‘Lizzie Borden’ routine on and £50 million ‘tech funds’. Is it Cannan and Quayle or us that are stupid pushovers. I don’t care by now I’m checking the flights to Tiraspol the capital of Transnistria. I’ve been to Bucharest and Sinaia (in the Transylvanian Alps) many years ago and they were very nice so I suppose it should be similar.

As I imagine myself gazing out from my Tiraspol apartment on the flowing waters of the Dniester river Media man is still droning on to MTTV! Moulton earns his money I think before humming a Moldovan folk song to myself.
