Manx Telecom wars - Who do you believe?

There is hardly a surfeit of telecom operators to share the business on the Isle of Man just two so you would think they would rub along.

However now SURE are accusing Manx Telecom of deceiving their customers - strong stuff. To me it sounds like a dispute between the Chamber of Commerce and the Employers Federation over who gets more time engaging with COMIN Ministers.

In any case I would have thought that SURE like MT are out to make a buck that's the nature of private enterprise so why wax all altruistic it has to be a sales ploy.

For their part Manx Telecom robustly respond that they are jolly well not deceiving anyone and issue a statement which makes it sound as if pay monthly customers can pop in and see the Manx Telecom MD and have a coffee anytime (link):

I’m a Manx Telecom pay monthly customer and have been since mobile phones were the size of small bricks. Indeed you would think I would get a new phone with a ribbon round it when my contract expired. But to be blunt I haven’t a clue when that is. My current Sony phone is quite ancient if my daughter and granddaughter are to be believed. At least they - the proud owners of something called ‘iphones’ - seemed to collapse in hysterics whenever they see my mesolithic mobile

I certainly can’t recall Manx Telecom sending me a cheery card or call along the lines they set out in their rebuttal but then I am a bit old now so miss things. However I can recall them telling me I could save myself a ‘MASSIVE £4’ a week if I switched my ISP to them. Like my loyalty to MT over mobiles I’ve been with my ISP provider since we stopped using two half tins and a string to communicate so I declined to take up the offer.

Still I suppose it shows that MT are not averse to doing to their competitors what SURE are trying to do to them.

As for my mobile I won’t be rushing into the Telecom shop shouting ‘you've been deceiving me’ Sure told me’. I’ll soldier on with it so if you hear hysterical laughter emanating from the Peel area you’ll know the family are round and I’ve offered them the use of my ‘Pay Monthly MT phone’

FOOTNOTE: I do hope SURE are wrong about MT and they are not going down the same road as Manx Gas - anything but that!
