Local residents express utter disgust at developer's damage caused to Cornish environment

Please look at the 'before and after' photographs below which depict a scene of none other than what we consider to be vandalism, as a developer building 'executive style residences' (whatever the they are other than the fact that they will be beyond the affordability of locals) sweeps aside a quaint, ancient stile and public footpath in Lelant to allow for house building.

Locals have courageously banded together to form the 'Tyringham Action Group - Lelant' to fight the ongoing wilful destruction of their community.

A spokesperson from the group says this, "Cornwall Council should be ashamed that our village heritage is being eroded - this was an ancient historic stile on a Gold status footpath that should have been protected for future generations but has been lost forever. Please email Cornwall Council or Cllr Linda Taylor to protest at this appalling act. chiefexec@cornwall.gov.uk or linda.taylor@cornwallcouncillors.org.uk".

This follows a long running series of concerns about the Planning Department at Cornwall Council.

Members of the Action Group have taken this matter as far as the uncaring and distant Westminster Parliament and have accused the Planning Department of telling blatant lies.

Cornwall Council, or rather one of its unelected officials said, "The council has noted with some disappointment the continuing allegations raised by the Tyringham Action Group. The council recognises that the action group may not accept the findings of the council with regards to their complaint and the council has therefore suggested to the group that, if they consider the council or any of its officers has acted incorrectly, they should address these concerns to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman who will independently and free of charge investigate their allegations for them."

That all said, the photographs reveal it all, don't they?

Kernow Matters To Us (KMTU) are shocked at this level of what we believe to be destruction of Cornish heritage and environment. Surely this crass removal of an ancient stile and denial of footpath rights cannot be acceptable? Something seriously wrong is happening within Cornwall Council and this is reflected in the large number of local protest groups cropping up in towns and villages around the Duchy accompanied by various petitions. Sadly, when hundreds of ordinary people from across Cornwall recently gathered outside Cornwall Council in Truro to peacefully and democratically protest the out of control building all over, one Cornwall Councillor went onto BBC Radio Cornwall and condemned the protestors as being 'the sinister underbelly of Cornish nationalists', this statement causing widespread anger amongst Council Tax payers in Cornwall from a wide variety of political backgrounds.
